Important dates and deadlines are coming up for anyone interested in becoming a candidate in 2022. See below for important information for all candidates.
Tuesday, February 1, 2022 is candidate filing day for all candidates seeking federal or statewide office. All candidates for these offices must file their required paperwork in person at the Secretary of State’s Office in Santa Fe between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm.
We encourage candidates to contact our Office before February 1st to schedule an appointment in order to avoid wait times, though this is not required.
Candidates should use the West entrance of the North Capitol Building (325 Don Gaspar, Santa Fe, NM 87501). We are limiting capacity at our Office to a maximum of two individuals per campaign.
Candidates for federal and statewide offices must file in person at our Office in Santa Fe on February 1st, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are required to be worn by all individuals while at our Office.
Tuesday, March 8, 2022 is candidate filing day for all other offices being contested in 2022. All candidates for these offices must file their required paperwork in person on this day between 9:00am and 5:00pm with their proper filing officer, which is their County Clerk.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE STATEMENTS:
All current, sitting elected officials have already filed a financial disclosure statement for 2022 and must bring a copy with them to file as part of their required paperwork on candidate filing day.
If you are a new candidate for office, you must complete a financial disclosure statement before candidate filing day and then bring a copy with you when you file.
Financial disclosure filings must be completed online through the Secretary of State’s Campaign Finance Information System (CFIS) here: https://login.cfis.sos.state.nm.us/#/index
