Secretary of State Announces Successful Candidate Filing Day for 2024 Major Party Pre-Primary Candidates
SANTA FE – Today, prospective federal major party candidates for the 2024 Primary Election gathered at the Secretary of State’s Office in Santa Fe to officially file the required paperwork to seek their party’s nomination. After the official election proclamation that was signed last week by Secretary Toulouse Oliver, this is the next major step in the 2024 election process.
“Candidate filing day is one of many crucial steps election administrators and candidates take in the fair and open process by which we elect our leaders,” said Secretary Toulouse Oliver. “I applaud all the candidates who officially threw their hats into the ring of our democracy today and filed for a spot in the June 4th Primary Election.”
The full list of candidates who filed today can be accessed at the Secretary of State’s Candidate Portal. Submitting nominating petition signatures is a key part of the filing process for candidates and this was the first year candidates were able to gather those signatures electronically through the Secretary of State’s online portal.
Only major party candidates for the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives filed today; filing day for all other offices in the Primary Election will happen with County Clerks on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. The slate of presidential candidates for each major party for the Primary Election were officially nominated by a presidential primary nominating committee last December.
